Hello,
This is a fun way to make a snowman. The shaving cream and glue dries puffy. The client loved to make the snowman.
Materials:
Heavy
card stock paper for the snowman
Shaving Cream
White Elmer's glue
Black and orange
paper for the nose, eyes, hat, and pieces of
coal
paper plate
plastic spoon
paint brush
sparkles
Directions:
First prepare for the therapy session by cutting out the shape of a snowman. Then cut out a black hat and orange nose. A hole punch was used for the eyes and pieces of coal. When with the client mix equal parts of the shaving cream
and glue. Mix on a paper plate with a plastic spoon. Later have the client use a paint brush to paint the white mixture on the paper snowman. Add sparkles if wanted. After the mixture dries glue on the hat, eyes, pieces of coal and nose.
I saw this idea on www.homemakingfun.blogspot.com. Enjoy!

Cup Rocket
Today's idea comes from Michigan, where I'm in a warm hoodie and drinking hot cocoa. A lot of ideas may be geared towards girls. Here is an idea for an active little boy that you may have trouble keeping focused in therapy.
Materials:
2 solo cups
A cut out rocket drawing
2 rubber bands
Tape
First either print out a rocket picture and have the client color it or have the client color a picture of a rocket his or her self. Then take the plastic cup make 4 evenly spaced, half-inch cuts in the rim of one cup. Then cut 2 rubber bands, knot them, and place them in the slits so that they are tight. Place the tape over the cuts on the inside of the cup so they are secure. Then put the rocket drawing on the side of the rubber band cup. To use, press the rubber band cup on top of the other cup and bounce it off. The client can use any words for this activity, specifically, up or high. A special thanks to Disney's Family Fun magazine for the fun activity! Hope you enjoy!

My first time!
Today is my first day doing actual speech therapy with a client! It is very exciting! I have been observing for an entire semester four days a week and now I get to do a therapy session. I work on executive functions with this particular client and will show the client strategies about using the Internet. On my other observation days, I am still working with a younger client. Here is an idea to get a young client to have fun with his or her words.
Oreo Bug
Materials:
Oreo cookie
6 small pretzel sticks
2 chocolate chips
peanut butter/or frosting
The Oreo will be the bugs body. First stick three pretzel sticks or legs into each side of the Oreo. Then drop 2 small dots onto the Oreo towards the top. Later put the chocolate chips on the dots for eyes. Now you have completed making you bug. Work with the client to say vc and cvc words when making and playing with the bug. Kids enjoy playing with their food because this is not an everyday event. Try and get the child to say in , on, eyes, legs, bug, and many other words. After have the child enjoy the bug cookie! You can also read a book to the child about spiders and bugs and have them try and say some of the objects in the book. Enjoy!

The cookies are ready!
Happy Monday! So recently we have been working on aiming for more cv1cv2 word utterances. For example, words like cookie, puppy, daddy, and mommy. This is an articulation activity for cvc and cv1cv2 words.
Materials:
Brown paper
black marker
scissors
glue/tape
cookie sheet
spatula
cvc picture/or words
First, use the brown paper and cut out large circles. Then glue the small target pictures or words onto the circles. Later use the black marker to draw chocolate chips onto the brown cookies. The client will have fun flipping the cookies with the spatula. This may be fun if you are working on cv1cv2 words like cookie or just cvc words. The client can be the baker and the clinician can ask "Baker whats on you cookie?" Then the client can flip the cookie and say the word. It is a fun interactive way to keep the client motivated with a new way of simply showing pictures and saying words.
A special thanks to mrsmorrowskindergarteners.blogspot.com for the fun idea!

Leaves Fall Down
Since the weather has gotten chilly lately, the leaves have all pretty much fallen. The leaves crunch when you jump in a pile of them and their colors are magnificent. A great way to include the seasons in your lesson plan is by using fake leaves!
Materials:
Fake colorful leaves
Strung
Tape
Cvc small pictures
Bug catcher
For this activity the clinician needs to prepare the leaves by gently taping the pictures to the leaves. Then tie the strings together and tape the leaves to the ends of the strings. Once you have finished, tape the strings to the ceiling. The main idea is to get the child to use the bug catcher and pull the leaves and name the words. Make sure the string is at the child's height. The child may also like to gather all the leaves at the end and throw them in the air. Enjoy!

Hi!
Hello all,
I'm an undergrad in the speech pathology degree. I've decided to start blogging on fun, interesting, and unique therapy ideas. For this school year I have been working on observing at a local clinic. At the clinic I have learned some fun and creative ideas to evoke utterances and different speech therapy techniques. Hope you enjoy and hope this will decrease the stress of creating a weekly lesson plan! My first activity is a simple one!
Materials:
chalk
paper towels
small bowl
water
coloring book
First get a small bowl of water. Then put the pieces of chalk in the water. Let it sit for a couple of minutes. Then take out the chalk and place on the paper towel. Make sure to have extra paper towels because the water and chalk may get messy. Then use the chalk on any type of coloring book or paper. The chalk will look very vibrant and neon-like. It is a fun alternative to just coloring in a coloring book. Children with sensory issues may not enjoy this activity, but remember to be flexible and try anything. The main goal when I used this therapy technique was to elicit cvc and cv1vc2 utterances. I used a farm animal coloring book. For example, I tried to get the client to say words like: puppy, cow, cat, dog, and pig.
Enjoy!
