Hi!

Hello all,
I'm an undergrad in the speech pathology degree. I've decided to start blogging on fun, interesting, and unique therapy ideas. For this school year I have been working on observing at a local clinic. At the clinic I have learned some fun and creative ideas to evoke utterances and different speech therapy techniques. Hope you enjoy and hope this will decrease the stress of creating a weekly lesson plan! My first activity is a simple one!
Materials:
chalk
paper towels
small bowl
water
coloring book

First get a small bowl of water. Then put the pieces of chalk in the water. Let it sit for a couple of minutes. Then take out the chalk and place on the paper towel. Make sure to have extra paper towels because the water and chalk may get messy. Then use the chalk on any type of coloring book or paper. The chalk will look very vibrant and neon-like. It is a fun alternative to just coloring in a coloring book. Children with sensory issues may not enjoy this activity, but remember to be flexible and try anything. The main goal when I used this therapy technique was to elicit cvc and cv1vc2 utterances. I used a farm animal coloring book. For example, I tried to get the client to say words like: puppy, cow, cat, dog, and pig.
Enjoy!
