Today is my first day doing actual speech therapy with a client! It is very exciting! I have been observing for an entire semester four days a week and now I get to do a therapy session. I work on executive functions with this particular client and will show the client strategies about using the Internet. On my other observation days, I am still working with a younger client. Here is an idea to get a young client to have fun with his or her words.
Oreo Bug
Materials:
Oreo cookie
6 small pretzel sticks
2 chocolate chips
peanut butter/or frosting
The Oreo will be the bugs body. First stick three pretzel sticks or legs into each side of the Oreo. Then drop 2 small dots onto the Oreo towards the top. Later put the chocolate chips on the dots for eyes. Now you have completed making you bug. Work with the client to say vc and cvc words when making and playing with the bug. Kids enjoy playing with their food because this is not an everyday event. Try and get the child to say in , on, eyes, legs, bug, and many other words. After have the child enjoy the bug cookie! You can also read a book to the child about spiders and bugs and have them try and say some of the objects in the book. Enjoy!
